2025 Climbing Sri Pada (Adam’s Peak) via the Palabaddala Route 🌄

✨ Introduction: A Pilgrimage Beyond the Physical

In the early hours of the morning, before sunrise kissed the sky, our group of 14 people (friends and family) embarked on a meaningful pilgrimage to Sri Pada, also known as Adam’s Peak. We chose the historic Palabaddala trail, an ancient and spiritual route beginning in the town of Rathnapura.

This wasn’t just a hike. It was a journey of reflection, challenge, bonding, and spiritual connection—one that reminded us how beautiful Sri Lanka truly is.

🛤️ The Palabaddala Route: History Etched in Every Step

Unlike the popular Hatton trail, the Palabaddala route is longer, quieter, and more traditional, steeped in Buddhist heritage. It’s believed to be the oldest path to the peak, once used by ancient kings, monks, and pilgrims seeking a path of solitude and reverence.

Winding through misty forests, remote shrines, bridges, and cascading streams, this route offers a rare connection with nature. You don’t just walk the trail, you experience it, with every breath filled with the scent of wet earth and incense.

🌿 What We Saw: Beauty in Every Frame

As seen in the video, our journey started just past dawn. We captured incredible scenes:

  • 🌳 Lush forests and mist-covered trails
  • 🏞️ Scenic viewpoints with sprawling valley views
  • 🛕 Buddhist shrines and rest stops along the way
  • 🙏 Fellow pilgrims chanting and offering blessings

Despite the occasional fatigue, nature kept us motivated. The rising sun filtered through tall trees, the rhythmic sound of footsteps on stone echoed peace, and friendly faces along the way reminded us we weren’t alone on this path.

💪 Facing the Challenge: Fitness & Willpower

Halfway through the climb, reality set in. Legs ached. Breaths grew heavy. But quitting was never an option.

In the video, I reflect on my personal fitness journey, past struggles, current goals, and the motivation this climb sparked in me. It’s a reminder that our bodies are capable of more than we believe, especially when fuelled by purpose and community.

This wasn’t just a spiritual climb; it was also a wake-up call to take health seriously for future adventures, and for life itself.

🛕 Arrival at Sri Pada: A Summit of Emotion

As a Buddhist pilgrim, reaching the summit of Sri Pada was extremely emotional. After hours of chanting and listening to the temple bells ringing in the mist, I stood before the sacred Sri Pada (the sacred footprint of the Buddha), a powerful symbol of the Blessed One’s arrival in our land. Clouded with clouds and morning light, it was a moment of calm and devotion, a reminder of impermanence, mindfulness, and the path to enlightenment. The mountain felt like a temple in the sky.

Tears, joy, and silence. We made it together.
